CHRISTOPHER LIKENS

Before a painting starts, it begins as a thought or idea that continues evolving. It is not unusual to see the painting almost completely finished in my mind before I pick up a brush.  Because of that, it becomes a tough road when the idea and the painting do not match and you cannot bring it home...I have had a few of those.  Paintings can represent an idea and/or a feeling in a singular representational work. Furthermore, if words were my means of conveyance, it would be difficult to formulate and come to a conclusion or sum up the idea with a single thought. I feel that paintings, like music, allow one to express an idea or a feeling without a conclusion.
